Art and Craft: Paper Marbling Training

Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design, which can produce patterns similar to
smooth marble or other kinds of stone. The patterns are the result of color floated on either
plain water or a viscous solution known as size, and then carefully transferred to an absorbent
surface, such as paper or fabric. Through several centuries, people have applied marbled
materials to a variety of surfaces. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and
especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that
each print is a unique monotype. (Wikipedia)
Metafors provides traditional paper marbling training. We use our own handmade natural
materials for marbling which are included in the sessions. The colors are natural pigments,
Carrageenan that is extracted from red edible seaweeds is used for sizing, and ox gall is used
as a surfactant in traditional paper marbling. All brushes are handmade by horsehair. You can
create your own unique marbling works with Metafors.
Since the techniques and materials of paper marbling are totally natural and marbling itself
has a relaxing effect on people, the training is suitable for children, adults, individuals with
special needs, and the elderly from different abilities.

years of experience in education and language, Metafors offers private tutoring, language

(traditional paper marbling) sessions to all types of learners including people with special
